The venture capital industry needs to start spending some money!
According to research by Preqin, $345.4 bn in venture capital money has been raised over the past 10 years, but $118.9 bn ?remains committed, yet not invested, as capital held in reserve?. In 2010, the level of dry powder reached was only $112.7 bn, which was down from $117.9 bn at the end of 2009.
Venture capital firms in North America are sitting on the most dry powder ($67.4 bn). However, this is down from $84.9 bn at the end of 2007. In Europe, there?s $19 bn on the sidelines right now, down from $21.4 bn at the end of 2007.
