An Edmonton diving coach is facing sex charges after a teenage boy alleged he was victimized in B.C.
In March, the Saanich Police Department (SPD) of B.C. launched an investigation into Trevor Palmatier, 43, touted as an Olympic and national diving coach on the Edmonton Diving Academy's website.
The SPD says two complainants have come forward with information on the case.
Based on the claims made by one of the them, three charges were laid against Palmatier and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The charges relate to allegations that Palmatier had sexual contact with a teenaged male diver in Victoria between 2004 and 2006, while Palmatier was his diving coach. The charges he's facing include two counts of sexual exploitation, and one count of procuring the sexual services of a person under 18.
Edmonton police, on behalf of the SPD, arrested Palmatier Wednesday. He made a court appearance in Edmonton and remains in custody. He's set to attend court in Victoria in the next six days.
Palmatier coached at Boardworks at Saanich Commonwealth Place for about 10 years, until 2007. Before that, he coached with the Vancouver Aquatic Centre.
He's been coaching in Edmonton since 2008 through his personal business, Big Dog Diving.
Edmonton police continue to investigate and urge people who may have been victimized, or have further information, to contact them at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.tipsubmit.com/start.htm.
