KICKING the smoking habit isn't easy.
And smokers across Gloucestershire are now being encouraged not to smoke in the car or inside their homes to limit the risk of the effects of passive smoking.
A new Smokefree campaign launched this week by the NHS and funded by Public Health England is providing motivation, information and support for smokers who want to quit.
More than 86,000 people in Gloucestershire smoke every day, and 11,000 of those are thought to smoke inside their homes.

Carla Sterry, of Lydney, found the motivation to quit smoking with support from the council's Stop Smoking service and has never looked back since putting out her last cigarette in October last year.
Carla noticed the difference in her life and her family's lives once she stopped.
"I never smoked in the house, just in the garden," she said.
"But I really notice the fact that none of my clothes smell and neither do my hair or hands.
"Quitting smoking started a health-kick snowball effect.
"The whole family is now eating healthily and enjoying a healthy lifestyle.
"We're even going on holiday this year, which I probably wouldn't have been able to afford if I had continued to smoke.
Benefits
"My health and fitness has greatly improved.
"My husband even got me a dog so that when I fancied a cigarette I could take the dog out instead.
"As a result of my walking I've lost weight that I put on after quitting smoking and can now walk for miles without getting out of breath. I feel so healthy and have even joined a local gym which I would never have been able to do while smoking."
The Smokefree campaign is encouraging people who do smoke to only do so outside, and not in their cars or in their homes.
County councillor Dorcas Binns, cabinet member for public health and communities, said: "Quitting smoking isn't easy, but there's a lot of support out there if you're ready to give it a go.
"Taking small steps like stopping smoking indoors or in your car could help too if you're looking for ways to cut down.
"Why not check out the Stop Smoking Service today? Like Carla, it could completely change your life."
The county's Stop Smoking service, provided for the county council by Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust, has been helping local people to quit the habit for 12 years.
Last year, its Quit Shop in Southgate Street helped 970 people to quit the smoking habit.
