A pleasant breeze kept a modest crowd comfortable for Saturday afternoon?s lineup at the 40th annual Poway Rodeo. The nighttime finale was expected to be a sellout. Under a brilliant sun, ropers, riders and steer wrestlers from at least nine states and two countries (including Michael Maher of Warwick, Queensland, Australia) entertained kids in cowboy hats and their parents and grandparents. Rodeo clown J.J. Harrison kept the cowboys safe and the crowd amused. But the critters had something to say, including one calf who cleverly slowed out of the gate?allowing a roping pair to shoot past on their mounts.?
