July 6, 2012 - With all the talk surrounding Sony purchasing cloud-based streaming service Gaikai, many were speculating as to what Sony has planned for the future of gaming on its PS3 and PlayStation Vita devices, the looming PS4 and how it will play a factor in purchasing games at various retailers worldwide. While Sony hasn't revealed its true goal behind purchasing on the online service, it did feel the need to address the public and establish where the company stands.
In a discussion between website MCV and Sony UK's Fergal Gara, he let it be known that Sony is committed to retail and that the UK retail market is undergoing "a bit of a readjustment." Sony feels that for the foreseeable future they will need brick-and-mortar establishment to help leverage the PlayStation brand and drive awareness of several of their upcoming products, including the Wonderbook.
While the company is indeed looking towards the future for the PlayStation brand, and Sony as a whole, somehow someway retailers will have a connection to what Sony does digitally. Keep in mind you can go to GameStop to purchase digital goods, which a redeemable on the PlayStation Network. Anything is possible.
