The Purple Haired Home Schooler: S'mores: the card game!

If your family loves camping, fun, and the outdoors, check out S'mores: the card game. This is an inexpensive, easy-to-play game that kids of all ages can enjoy.
Directions, from Education Outdoors, INC: The object of the game is to build an edible s?more before your opponents. Players get a higher point value based on the quality of s?more ingredients. First player to collect all 4 ingredient cards and call out ?S?more!?, wins. The S?more card game includes 70, 3 x 5? sturdy playing cards , and retails for $5.99. Sure to be a big hit at home or on your next family outing. Printed with Soy-Based Ink on Recycled Paper.
I love that the cards for this game are very durable and strong. A lot of cards are flimsy and hard for younger kids to manage, but my 3-year-old was able to flip over the cards just fine in this game. We played this game with three players, but you could easily add extra players for more fun.

The object of the game is very simple, but not so easy that the game becomes boring. Each player needs to get the ingredients to make a S'more: two graham crackers, a marshmallow, and some chocolate. There are extra cards in the game, as well. Some cards are neutral, such as a tent or a sleeping bag, while some cards offer bonus or negative points. Additionally, I liked that the marshmallow, chocolate, and graham cracker cards vary in their point values. You might make a S'more, but it might be with burnt marshmallows or stale graham crackers!

Since my kids are still small, we chose to play this game with the cards facing up so I could help them along. While the actual gameplay allows you to take another player's card on your turn (similar to "Go Fish"), we chose to just utilize the discard and draw piles. We still had a great time and everyone was able to enjoy themselves. The graphics on the cards are very vibrant and the words are printed in large letters, which meant my 5-year-old got in some good sight word practice with some of the things he found while drawing cards, such as a tent or a stick.

We played this game several times before bed tonight and my kids were begging me to keep going! While this isn't something I would have normally picked up, I'm very glad we got it and I'm planning to get a copy of this game for my parents since they also enjoy board games.
