Robert Lorenz to direct Black List script "The Broken"

By Jeff Sneider

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Following a solid at-bat with baseball drama "Trouble With the Curve," director Robert Lorenz has come onboard the period indie movie "The Broken," which was voted to the 2012 Black List of Hollywood's best unproduced screenplays.

Lorenz, who is Clint Eastwood's longtime producing partner, is now attached to direct "The Broken," which was written by Resolution client John Glosser.

Set in 1967 Oklahoma, the story follows a war veteran who investigates the suspicious death of his estranged son in the next county. When he discovers his son's brutal murder was a covered-up gay bashing, he goes on a one-man mission to take down the corrupt sheriff responsible.

At least one Oscar winner has expressed interest in the lead role, but there is no cast attached to the project at this time.

"Avatar" star Sam Worthington is producing with his Full Clip Productions partners Michael Schwarz and John Schwarz, as well as Ted Kroeber ("American Gun").

Lorenz made his directorial debut on WB's "Trouble With the Curve," which starred Eastwood, Amy Adams and Justin Timberlake. Lorenz produced that film and he's also producing Eastwood's remake of "A Star Is Born."

Lorenz is represented by CAA.
