Towery: Obamacare Ruling Will ?Re-Energize? Tea Party, GOP

While President Barack Obama is likely to experience a short-term ?bump? in his poll numbers from Thursday?s Supreme Care ruling on healthcare, InsiderAdvantage head and pollster Matt Towery tells Newsmax that the decision is also likely to re-energize the tea party and Republicans in the final months of the presidential campaign.

?I think that Obama will have a good day today and he?ll celebrate ? and his people will celebrate,? said Towery in an exclusive interview on Thursday. ?It probably will guarantee that the tea party will get so energized they won?t know what to do.?

With the Fourth of July holiday typically marked by tea party events, this year?s rallies promise to feature bigger fireworks than usual over healthcare ? just not the kind people have to look up into the night sky to watch.

?They?re going to be furious,? predicted Towery of the tea party. ?I think that calling it a tax and using that as an excuse to uphold this legislation is just nuts.?

Even so, the president is likely to benefit in the short term from positioning by mainstream media organizations, which tend to have an inherent bias toward universal healthcare.

?We?ve all got to understand the mainstream media ? the three big networks that people watch,? he explained. ?They put a spin on things that it takes a long time for the public to discern what the truth is.?
Towery predicted that GOP nominee Mitt Romney will be able to capitalize on the Obamacare ruling with the proper positioning.

?If the Romney campaign does what their supposed to do ? and that is not spin things, but cast things in the proper light ? then they?ve got a campaign issue that they can run with and win with,? said Towery, giving some examples of how the campaign might use the ruling to its benefit.

?Do you need another tax? How many more taxes do you have to pay,? he advised. ?And I would use that phraseology right out of the decision.?

(AP) ? Russian's desire to keep its last remaining ally in the Middle East collided head-long with the United States' desire to remove President Bashar Assad and replace him with a democracy at a pivotal United Nations-brokered conference Saturday seeking a political solution to the violence in Syria.

Efforts at bridging the Russian-U.S. divide over Syria held the key to international envoy Kofi Annan's plan for easing power away from Assad's grip and ending 16 months of horrific violence in Syria before it erupts into full-blown civil war.

Without agreement among the major powers on how to form a transitional government for Syria, Assad's regime which is Iran's closest ally would be emboldened to try to remain in power indefinitely ? and that would also complicate the U.S. aim of preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.

At talks Friday night, top U.S. and Russian diplomats remained deadlocked over the negotiating text to agree on guidelines and principles for "a Syria-led transition."

Hopes have centered on persuading Russia, which is Syria's most important ally, protector and supplier of arms, to agree to a plan that would end the Assad family dynasty that has ruled Syria for more than four decades. But the Russians want Syria alone to be the master of its fate, at a time when Assad's regime and the opposition are increasingly bitterly polarized.

"Ultimately, we want to stop the bloodshed in Syria. If that comes through political dialogue, we are willing to do that," said Khalid Saleh, a spokesman for the Syrian National Council, a coalition of Syrian opposition groups in Istanbul, Turkey. "We are not willing to negotiate (with) Mr. Assad and those who have murdered Syrians. We are not going to negotiate unless they leave Syria."

The negotiating text for the multinational conference calls for establishing a transitional government of national unity, with full executive powers, that could include members of Assad's government and the opposition and other groups. It would oversee the drafting of a new constitution and elections.

But the text that would serve as the framework for Annan's peace efforts also would "exclude from government those whose continued presence and participation would undermine the credibility of the transition and jeopardize stability and reconciliation."

Foreign ministers from all five of the permanent, veto-wielding members of the U.N. Security Council ? Britain, China, France, Russia and the U.S. ? converged at the U.N.'s European headquarters in the sprawling Palais des Nations overlooking Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc. Russia and China have twice use their council veto to shield Syria from U.N. sanctions.

For his "Action Group on Syria," U.N.-Arab League envoy Annan also invited Turkey, the U.N. secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, the European Union and Iraq, Kuwait and Qatar as heads of three groups within the League of Arab States.

Major regional players Iran and Saudi Arabia were not invited. The Russians objected to the Saudis, who support the Syrian opposition. The U.S. objected to the Islamic Republic, which supports Assad's regime.

Much of the work remains to be hammered out by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who met for an hour in St. Petersburg before sharing dinner Friday before Clinton left Russia. Lavrov predicted the meeting had a "good chance" of finding a way forward, despite the grim conditions on the ground.

Russia insists that outsiders cannot order a political solution for Syria, while the U.S. is adamant that Assad should not be allowed to remain in power at the top of the transitional government.

But Clinton said Thursday in Riga, Latvia, that all participants in the Geneva meeting, including Russia, were on board with the transition plan. She told reporters that the invitations made clear that representatives "were coming on the basis of (Annan's) transition plan."

The uprising in Syria since March of last year has killed some 14,000 people and Syria has shot down a Turkish warplane. Turkey has responded by setting up anti-aircraft guns on its border with Syria. On Friday, Syrian troops shelled a suburb of Damascus, killing an estimated 125 civilians and 60 soldiers.

The United Nations says the violence in Syria has worsened since a cease-fire deal in April and the bloodshed appears to be taking on dangerous sectarian overtones, with growing numbers of Syrians targeted on account of their religion. The increasing militarization of both sides in the conflict has Syria heading toward civil war.

The Eight Stages of Conservative Grief

Meanwhile, Rep. Paul Broun of Georgia found himself in the anguished stream of metaphors stage. ?Chief Justice Roberts once said that the Supreme Court?s job is to apply the law??to call balls and strikes, not to pitch or bat,? ? the congressman opined in a statement. ?He couldn?t have been more right in saying so, and he couldn?t have been more wrong by choosing to circumvent the Constitution this morning. Even worse, I fear that the High Court has opened Pandora?s box."

July 4th Fireworks and Festivities Can Put Pets in Peril - Imperial ...

For us, the sound of fireworks on the Fourth of July is exciting, but for our pets, it's a different story. The unanticipated, loud, jolting sound of a firework is extremely frightening and sometimes painful to our pets. It can evoke fright in an animal and cause behaviors that we would never think our pet was capable of.? When fright takes over, your animal is likely to take "flight."?

Unfortunately, numerous animals will run in fear to escape from what they perceive to be as danger. Animals running in fear can escape from enclosures or yards, become injured in various ways or hit by cars, as well as become lost. In a panic, they may not listen to you or even bite someone in fear. Unfortunately, this one night of celebration can keep emergency animal clinics and County Animal?Services hopping.

This holiday we encourage you to be sensitive to the needs and comfort of your pets during impending celebrations, which cause a change in routine, loud noises and gatherings that can be stressful to your pets. The heightened activity of "strangers" celebrating at your home, or you being away from home while your pet hears other nearby activities and strange noises can make your pet anxious.

To keep your pet safe on July 4, consider these precautions and tips:

*? Leave your pet at home and indoors if you attend a fireworks display.?Pets should be put in a safe, escape proof place, in familiar surroundings with a television or radio on to mitigate noise.

*? Do not leave your pets in your vehicle to watch fireworks.?Vehicle interiors can get dangerously hot, even when windows are left partially open or during?evening hours, and your pet could be injured trying to escape from noise.

*? Consult your veterinarian if you know your pet is reactive to noise. A veterinarian may be able to suggest an anti-anxiety medication or other technique to keep your pet calm.

*? Keep alert to foods and products used on July 4 that can harm your pets.?Alcoholic drinks, toothpicks in foods, chicken bones, matches and lighter fluid, hot coals or flames from the barbeque, citronella candles, are just a few things that can entice your pet and can injure or make them ill.

*? Ensure pets are easily identifiable.?Pets with a properly registered microchip and/or external identification tags are more readily reunited with their owners. Microchipping is available at the the County Animal Shelters every Thursday from 1-3 p.m. If your pet is already microchipped, make sure your personal information is current.

*? If you lose your pet, visit your local animal shelters immediately.?Owners of lost pets should personally visit local shelters frequently. Post signs and place ads. Visit sddac.com to search for pets, and find shelter locations and hours.

*? If you find a pet, it should be taken to the nearest shelter.?Pets are considered private property and distraught owners will be searching area shelters for their pets. If you find a pet, call County Animal Services at 619-767-2675.

Syria violence rages as crisis meeting put in doubt

Deadly violence raged across Syria with a twin bombing in Damascus two days before a crucial international meeting that looked threatened late in the day by Russian objections.

Turkey reinforced its volatile border with Syria with missile batteries as world powers prepared for talks in Geneva on ways to end the raging conflict and to discuss a plan by peace envoy Kofi Annan for an interim government.

But UN-Arab League envoy Annan was battling to save the meeting following Russian objections to his proposed transition plan, diplomats said at the United Nations.

Violence on Thursday killed at least 91 people, including 59 civilians, after one of the bloodiest days of the 15-month revolt left at least 149 dead on Wednesday, a watchdog said.

Thursday's heaviest toll was in the northern Damascus suburb of Douma where 30 people were killed, among them five members of one family, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The day's fatalities also included 23 soldiers and nine rebels, said the campaign group, adding that regime forces backed by helicopters pounded several areas of the eastern city of Deir Ezzor.

On the diplomatic front Annan called for talks between senior officials from Russia, the United States, France, Britain and China on Friday in a bid to rescue the meeting of foreign ministers the next day, diplomats said.

A meeting between US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Saint Petersburg on Friday could also decide the fate of future international action on Syria.

Clinton and the foreign ministers of Britain and France, William Hague and Laurent Fabius, have told Annan there will be no point holding the Geneva meeting unless an accord on a transition plan can be guaranteed, diplomats said.

The Geneva conference with Clinton, Lavrov, Hague, Fabius, China's Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and the foreign ministers of Qatar, Turkey and Kuwait had been intended as a public show of support for Annan's transition plan.

Annan announced the meeting on Tuesday, having said he would only call the ministers to Geneva if he was sure they would unite around a plan to end the worsening conflict that Syrian activists say has left more than 15,000 dead.

Russia, the last major ally of President Bashar al-Assad, has objected to a proposal which could limit membership of a transitional unity government in Syria, diplomats said.

Annan's plan, obtained by AFP, said the interim government could include Assad officials and the opposition "but would exclude from government those whose continued presence and participation would undermine the credibility of the transition and jeopardise stability and reconciliation".

Diplomats have said this means that Assad could be ruled out of the government but did not automatically exclude his participation. Opposition figures could also be kept out under the same formula, they stressed.

The meeting in Geneva, agreed only after wrangling between Moscow and Washington over the agenda and the guest list, was to be attended by some regional governments but not Middle East heavyweights Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Russia insists Iran should be part of the solution to Syria's conflict. "Iran is an influential player in this situation and to leave it out of the Geneva meeting, I believe, is a mistake," Lavrov said on Thursday.

Assad's fate "must be decided within the framework of a Syrian dialogue by the Syrian people themselves" without foreign interference, he insisted.

Russia had already poured cold water on the Geneva gathering, with Lavrov saying Moscow rejected Western pressure for Assad's ouster.

In central Damascus, three people were wounded when bombs blasted a car park outside the Palace of Justice complex, state media reported. A police source told AFP that two magnetic bombs exploded in judges' cars.

US State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said Washington condemned attacks "against innocents from any direction that they come from" after the bombings.

"But the larger concern is -- as we've said for many, many weeks -- it is Assad that bears the brunt of responsibility," she told reporters.

More than 15,800 people have been killed since the uprising broke out in March 2011, including nearly 4,700 since April 12, when a UN-backed ceasefire was supposed to have taken effect, the Observatory says.

Turkey has sent missile batteries, tanks and troops to the border as a "security corridor" after Syria shot down a Turkish warplane last Friday, media reports said.

State-run TRT television showed dozens of military vehicles reportedly heading for the border, in a convoy that included air defence systems.

About 30 military vehicles accompanied by a truck towing missile batteries left a base in the southeastern province of Hatay for the frontier, about 50 kilometres (30 miles) away, Milliyet newspaper reported.

The Turkish Phantom F-4 jet was downed by Syria over the eastern Mediterranean in what Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called a "heinous attack" over international waters.

Turkey's National Security Council said after a meeting on Thursday it will take steps "with determination by reserving all of its rights born out of international law in the face of this hostile act."

'Atkins'-Type Diets May Raise Risk of Heart Problems: Study

TUESDAY, June 26 (HealthDay News) -- Women who regularly eat a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet may be raising their risk of heart disease and stroke by as much as 28 percent, a new study suggests.

Although the absolute increase in risk is small -- four or five extra cases per 10,000 women -- many young women try the Atkins diet or similar regimens and could be setting themselves up for cardiovascular problems later in life, the researchers noted.

"Low-carbohydrate, high-protein diets are frequently used for body-weight control," said lead researcher Dr. Pagona Lagiou, assistant professor of epidemiology at the University of Athens Medical School in Greece. "Although [the diets] may be nutritionally acceptable if the protein is mainly of plant origin, such as nuts, and the reduction of carbohydrates applies mainly to simple and refined [carbohydrates] like unhealthy sweeteners, drinks and snacks, the general public does not always recognize and act on this guidance."

The study, published online June 26 in the BMJ, does not answer questions about the possible short-term benefits of these diets in the control of body weight or insulin resistance, Lagiou said.

For the study, Lagiou's team collected data on the diets of more than 43,000 Swedish women who were between the ages of 30 and 49 at the start of the study.

Over an average of 15 years of follow-up, there were more than 1,200 cardiovascular events, including heart disease and stroke. There were more of these events among the women who followed a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet than among women who didn't, the researchers found.

Compared with women who veered furthest from the high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet, women who followed the diet most closely increased their risk by 28 percent, even after other risk factors, such as smoking, drinking, hypertension, exercise and fat intake, were taken into account, the researchers noted.

"Reduction of body weight should rely on increasing physical activity and reducing caloric intake," Lagiou said.

The long-term health effects of special diets that are followed for long periods of time have not been adequately studied to allow determination of their safety, she added.

Dr. Gregg Fonarow, chairman of cardiovascular medicine and science at the University of California, Los Angeles, said low-carb diets such as the Atkins regimen have been touted widely and have become increasingly popular.

"This study raises concerns about the long-term effects on cardiovascular health of low-carbohydrate, high-protein diets -- particularly if there is not careful consideration given to whether plant versus animal proteins are consumed," said Fonarow, who is also director of the Ahmanson-UCLA Cardiomyopathy Center.

Another expert, Samantha Heller, an exercise physiologist and clinical nutrition coordinator at the Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital in Derby, Conn., said "the results of this study are not surprising."

Popular high-protein diets inevitably include an abundance of cheese and red and processed meats, and a dearth of healthy carbohydrates such as whole grains, vegetables, legumes and fruits, she said.

"What this study did not address is that research is finding that diets high in red meat and/or processed meats may increase the risk of type 2 diabetes; colorectal cancer; coronary heart disease; breast cancer; esophageal, liver and lung cancers; and chronic obstructive lung disease," Heller said. "[They also] increase levels of bad cholesterol."

More research is needed to pinpoint how and for whom these risks are elevated, she added.

"In the meantime, cut back on your intake of meat and other animal-protein sources. Start experimenting with beans, edamame, tofu, nuts and nut butters (such as peanut, almond and cashew butter), low- or nonfat yogurt, cottage cheese and milk," Heller advised. "Pick up the carb intake with 100 percent whole-grain breads, brown rice, quinoa and hefty doses of vegetables, legumes and fruits."

Although the study found an association between high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets and increased risk of cardiovascular problems, it did not prove a cause-and-effect relationship.

New way of probing exoplanet atmospheres

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

The planet Tau Bootis b was one of the first exoplanets to be discovered back in 1996, and it is still one of the closest exoplanets known. Although its parent star is easily visible with the naked eye, the planet itself certainly is not, and up to now it could only be detected by its gravitational effects on the star. Tau Bootis b is a large "hot Jupiter" planet orbiting very close to its parent star.

Like most exoplanets, this planet does not transit the disc of its star (like the recent transit of Venus). Up to now such transits were essential to allow the study of hot Jupiter atmospheres: when a planet passes in front of its star it imprints the properties of the atmosphere onto the starlight. As no starlight shines through Tau Bootis b's atmosphere towards us, this means the planet's atmosphere could not be studied before.

But now, after 15 years of attempting to study the faint glow that is emitted from hot Jupiter exoplanets, astronomers have finally succeeded in reliably probing the structure of the atmosphere of Tau Bootis b and deducing its mass accurately for the first time. The team used the CRIRES instrument on the Very Large Telescope (VLT) at ESO's Paranal Observatory in Chile. They combined high quality infrared observations (at wavelengths around 2.3 microns) with a clever new trick to tease out the weak signal of the planet from the much stronger one from the parent star.

Lead author of the study Matteo Brogi (Leiden Observatory, the Netherlands) explains: "Thanks to the high quality observations provided by the VLT and CRIRES we were able to study the spectrum of the system in much more detail than has been possible before. Only about 0.01% of the light we see comes from the planet, and the rest from the star, so this was not easy".

The majority of planets around other stars were discovered by their gravitational effects on their parent stars, which limits the information that can be gleaned about their mass: they only allow a lower limit to be calculated for a planet's mass. The new technique pioneered here is much more powerful. Seeing the planet's light directly has allowed the astronomers to measure the angle of the planet's orbit and hence work out its mass precisely. By tracing the changes in the planet's motion as it orbits its star, the team has determined reliably for the first time that Tau Bootis b orbits its host star at an angle of 44 degrees and has a mass six times that of the planet Jupiter in our own Solar System.

"The new VLT observations solve the 15-year old problem of the mass of Tau Bootis b. And the new technique also means that we can now study the atmospheres of exoplanets that don't transit their stars, as well as measuring their masses accurately, which was impossible before", says Ignas Snellen (Leiden Observatory, the Netherlands), co-author of the paper. "This is a big step forward."

As well as detecting the glow of the atmosphere and measuring Tau Bootis b's mass, the team has probed its atmosphere and measured the amount of carbon monoxide present, as well as the temperature at different altitudes by means of a comparison between the observations and theoretical models. A surprising result from this work was that the new observations indicated an atmosphere with a temperature that falls higher up. This result is the exact opposite of the temperature inversion -- an increase in temperature with height -- found for other hot Jupiter exoplanets.

The VLT observations show that high resolution spectroscopy from ground-based telescopes is a valuable tool for a detailed analysis of non-transiting exoplanets' atmospheres. The detection of different molecules in future will allow astronomers to learn more about the planet's atmospheric conditions. By making measurements along the planet's orbit, astronomers may even be able to track atmospheric changes between the planet's morning and evening.

"This study shows the enormous potential of current and future ground-based telescopes, such as the E-ELT. Maybe one day we may even find evidence for biological activity on Earth-like planets in this way", concludes Ignas Snellen.

Good coffee news: Drink helps prevent skin cancer and heart failure ...

Java lovers drink up! Two separate studies released today have found that those who drink coffee have a lower risk of developing the most common kind of skin cancer ? basal cell carcinoma ? and also have a lower risk of heart failure.

The new skin cancer study out of Harvard indicated that decaf coffee did not have the same effect, so researchers attribute the benefit to caffeine. The findings were consistent with published mouse data, which indicate caffeine can block skin tumor formation.

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer in the United States. ?Given the large number of cases, daily dietary changes having any protective effect may have an impact on public health,? said Jiali Han, associate professor at Brigham and Women?s Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston, and author of the study published in Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

Neither coffee nor caffeine consumption were associated with reduced risk of the other forms of skin cancer: squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma.

Han and his colleagues generated their results by looking at data from the Nurses? Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study, two large long-running studies.

Of the 112,897 participants in the analyses, 22,786 developed basal cell carcinoma during the more than 20 years of follow-up. Researchers observed an inverse association between not only coffee consumption and risk of basal cell carcinoma, but also all dietary sources of caffeine ? including tea, cola and chocolate ? and the cancer.

?Our results add basal cell carcinoma to a list of conditions for which risk is decreased with increasing coffee consumption,? said Han.

Those other conditions include type 2 diabetes, Parkinson?s disease and now heart failure.

A separate study also released today from the American Heart Association?s journal Circulation Heart Failure reported that moderate coffee consumption reduced that deadly condition.

?While there is a commonly held belief that regular coffee consumption may be dangerous to heart health, our research suggests that the opposite may be true,? said Dr. Murray Mittleman, senior study author and director of the cardiovascular epidemiology research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

The heart researchers found that moderate coffee consumption ? defined as two typical coffee shop beverages ? may actually protect against heart failure by as much as 11 percent, he said.

Beyonce Tribute to Michael Jackson: Remembering the King of Pop, Pure Swag

Michael Jackson died June 25, 2009, or three years ago this week. In a touching tribute to MJ, Beyonce remembers the artist who changed her life forever.

The "Crazy in Love" singer and new mom wrote a touching message on her website about Jackson on Monday, Michael Jackson's death anniversary.

Beyonce, 30, said her first producer had her listen MJ's "Who's Loving You" on repeat. "What he wanted me to learn was his soul," the star recalls.

"You could hear his soul. It's something that's God given."

Beyonce and Michael Jackson

"For whatever reason he could evoke more emotion than an adult," she went on. "It was these little things he did that were pure swag."

And the mother of Blue Ivy Carter and wife of rapper Jay-Z credits the King of Pop for teaching her that "sometimes you have to forget technique."

"Michael Jackson changed me forever, and helped me to become the artist I am," Beyonce writes, adding simply "Thank you Michael."

Jackson died on June 25, 2009 from an overdose of the anesthetic propofol, given to him by Dr. Conrad Murray. He was only 50 years old.

  • Niles Bayou: ?/? Well, isn't this guy a bit of eye candy, eh? He seems funny, and light hearted, and his eyes are so distracting. The other thing I've noticed about his eyes however, is how much they follow that girl from his district. Shame that.
  • Forever Constance: Your symbol first, and then a little about your character's relationship with them. One or two sentences.
  • District Five Male: Your symbol first, and then a little about your character's relationship with them. One or two sentences.

that much, that you'd do it with anybody. I mean, there's flirty, and then there's her. Eesh.
  • Keeth Diggett: ? Wow, this guy is shy, isn't he? I mean... wow! He's like a startled deer! I just want to walk up to him and cheer him up, make him smile or talk, or something. He seems adorable, though. For nine months, I can see him and me being good friends. I'll try and open him up a bit, bring him out of his shell.

  • Lor Pellet: ? Lor makes me smile; he's got such a witty mouth. Honestly, we have quite a bit of fun together - he's one of the only people in this house that has seen my childish side. He's not just one of those big brutes that swings his weight around, trying to gain attention. He's actually got quite a brain on him. We can pull some excellent debates together, seeing as I never went to school! I think we'd be amazing friends, if we weren't being asked to kill each other in a few months. Well, for now we can be friends anyway.
  • Pip Pypin: ?/? She's so young to be here... I hate that. I want to treat her like Wyatt, like a little sibling, but I can see she doesn't like that. I'll try and keep away from her, or else I'll be trying to protect her. I might try and do that in the Arena anyway, become allies with her or something. I can't stand the thought of her being hurt.
  • Tyke Delfino: ? Eh, he seems okay. A little strange, but all right, I guess. I don't think we'll be great friends though. He seems to have some sort of multiple personality disorder. I can't get along with people like that. They confuse me to hell and back. I'll stay away from this one, but I'll chat to him if I must.

  • Aristata O'Rouke: Your symbol first, and then a little about your character's relationship with them. One or two sentences.
  • Zyker Lintsy: ?/? Zyker is... my best friend. Seeing as I don't go to school, he's one of the only people I interact with of my age. We meet when we can, and he teaches me what he has learnt at school that day. He's my breath of fresh air. Although, recently, I've been starting to see him as more than just a friend. I saw one of the girl's from the district, one of the pretty ones hanging around him, batting her eyelids and it made me angry. It made me jealous that he was smiling back at her. I can't tell him this though - he probably has his heart devoted to someone already. That's the kind of sweet, beautiful man that he is.

  • Why that colour for you name? Black - it's the colour of coal. It also could represent the blackness that covers everyone in Twelve. We're all pretty down and depressed.

    • Gavril Scynthe: ?/? This man confuses me. One moment he will be talking to you, all confident and charming, but the next, he will flip to the other side, and be blunt. Honestly, I can't get my head around him. I want to though. I think we could be allies, if we worked something out; I just need to work him out, before I even go into that territory. Besides, he's a Career, isn't he? Already trained and paired up with the other higher Tributes, right? Maybe allies wouldn't work out...

She's over-flowing with sarcastic comments and a cocky attitude that just knocks you off of your feet. Stiletto is too much, for any man to handle, I'd guess, and I honestly don't think I'll get along with her very well.

    • Mildred Tarzia:?/? Oh, I like the look of her. She's gorgeous, and seems totally down to Earth; I can't be dealing with someone who lives with her head in the clouds. Even though I've only seen her once in person, in all the TV shots of her, she's smiling. It's unfaltering, really. I've grown so used to seeing her with a smile plastered over her face, I don't want that to change. I'm thinking I should become good friends with her, and keep that smile on her face.

    • Saffron Lockhearst: ? Not my cup of tea, to be fair. She seems very motherly and caring, and I don't like that. I mean, that fun, wild side of her that came out could be fun, but the other side? I don't think so. I don't like mothers and parents as it is, and I do not want to start living with one here, thank you very much.

  • Why that colour for you name? I picked a dirty brown/yellow because it reminds me of home, and the hay that I had to ship every day for the horses.

  • Why that colour for you name? I chose a tan because that is the color of the earth, the wheat, the grains we sell and the wheat it creates, the breads on Panem's tables every night, and the clothing of my district. We work hard in the sun, planting and growing our food. Even our aqueducts have become browned by the silt. Tan is the essence of District 9, in my mind.

  • Why that colour for you name? I picked a red-orange because I feel my district is like the sun: We are essential to daily life. You can go a couple days without electricity, or heat. But food? Everyone has to eat to survive, and we provide a stable of every diet. Look at that table in front of you! How much of the food there has a main ingredient of some sort of grain? That's what I thought. *pauses* Can I have a piece of that?

  • I've walked this earth for many a year, I've seen all there is to fear,
But not with mine eyes, I've seen people die,
Loved ones torn away, Heard the screams of children,
As they writhe in agony, But not with mine eyes or ears,
I've screamed curses, I've been beaten, tortured, and murdered numerous times,
But not has any of this happened. All this exsists but not in what I've seen, heard, or spoke,
    Only in your wicked thought...
