Of all the custom workshops in the USA there's one that never fails to remind me of exactly why I love motorcycles. On Sandy Blvd in Portland, Oregon you'll find See See Motorcycle HQ, a custom motorcycle workshop and recently constructed cafe where the See See team gather to devise their next custom build, motorcycle?exhibition?or fun-filled, harebrained video/photo shoot (see below). It's a place where I imagine the phrase "never a dull moment" has become common place and where local moto lovers gather to feed their obsession of everything two wheeled.
See See have been doing great things in the custom scene over the past few years and were a major influencer of the Oil Stained Brain show here in Melbourne. Their One Motorcycle Show and 21 Helmets exhibition has grown from being a small underground gathering to one of the best, backyard built custom motorcycle events in the world. The One show now attracts big name sponsors such as Bell and icon and big hitter custom motorcycle builders like Chabott Engineering, Roland Sands and Deus Ex Machina.
The See See team is made up of 8 key members and includes Red Bull judge and freestyle Motocross rider Drake McElroy and automotive photojournalist Ray Gordon. They ride a mixed bag of custom motorcycles that tend to be based on trials bikes that they ride hard on and off the road (as you may have noticed in the first video). If you drop by the moto-cafe you will have the opportunity stare at a few of them while you sip your coffe,
What See See have done (and the reason I like them so much) is they have taken their passion for motorcycles and turned it into a business model that is building interest in the custom motorcycle scene and doing it with a big cheesy grin. It's a homegrown, grass roots approach that can only do well with the backing of the community it is building around it. We will be seeing plenty of great things from See See in 2013, starting with the One Motorcycle Show in Feb 2013. Be sure to 'like' their facebook page to stay up to date with their latest moto antics.
